Paul Kramer and I worked (and continue to work) together to produce each other's recordings.  We enjoy performing together and hope to do much more of it. Paul's CD (Sleeping Dogs Lie) is for sale here on my website. It's a compilation of solo guitar, guitar duets and guitar and flute music; some original and some new arrangements of existing pieces. Our new CD, Two People, was recorded in the Church Theatre in St. Jacobs, Ontario. Please have a listen to the samples here or at cdbaby.

About the Music (First Flight)

All of the music is original. Seven of the pieces are written in one of my favourite tunings, DADGAD. I really like working in DADGAD because there is no 3rd so I can make it minor or major easily. The challenge is to make it work in keys other than D!

Some of it is played on a steel-string guitar and some on nylon-string. There are many words that could characterize the timbre of a steel-string guitar --- bright, shimmering, clear--- but, most of all,  the sound has to suit the piece of music. The song "Landing on Her Feet" was written on the steel-string but, in the end, sounded a little more natural on the classical (nylon-string) guitar.  I also love the sound of my electric guitar. It will be included on the next CD.

Naming instrumental pieces is always interesting. The name might evoke an image or feeling that the music also states or at least hints at.  Sometimes the title just pops out of nowhere. I always enjoy the surprise element of the naming process.
